Our Trustees

Trustee Roles

The role of Trustees within The Gathering is to ensure that we are fulfilling our Charitable Objects. They share collective responsibility for the governance of our organisation, for the day-to-day running and decisions about our church.

Some, but not all, of our Trustees are also Pastoral Leaders, who can opt-in or out of being a Trustee, and are responsible for pastoral care and worship at The Gathering.

Lay Trustees have fixed terms of 3 years. Once their term is up they may be re-elected, or someone else might be elected in their place.

There are 10 Trustee posts, and several specific roles within those posts. Some of the roles are shared (eg. we have co-treasurers who equally share responsibility for our finances). Below you can see a breakdown of how the roles are split and click on them to find more details of what each role entails.

Meet the Trustee team!

These are the people who are currently serving as Trustees at the Gathering, though please note this is not an exhaustive list because not everyone we have serving as a Trustee is comfortable or safe to put their details and picture online.

Interested in becoming a Lay Trustee?

This is a (very) brief overview of how becoming a Trustee works! If you really fancy a read of our (very) lengthy Trustee Appointments Procedure document, you can find it on our Policies Page!

Lay trustee terms are 3 years. Votes are held every year for 2 of the 6 different roles

Before the AGM, you can nominate yourself. You’ll need two seconders

You need to declare any conflicts of interest or disqualifications

Depending on whether you’re going for a role you’ve already been in or a new one, and if anyone else is running, the other trustees will vote!

The trustees bring their decision to the AGM!

We carry out some checks (like DBS) and give you the stuff you need to be an effective trustee
